CCME Granted Continuing Nursing Education Approved Provider Status by the North Carolina Nurses Association
The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence (CCME) has been recognized by the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) as an approved provider of continuing nursing education (CNE). The NCNA, the voice for North Carolina’s registered nurses since 1902, is an accredited approver of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.
“As the federally designated Quality Improvement Organization for both North and South Carolina, CCME has a strong educational focus in its overall mission of improving the quality and cost effectiveness of health care,” said Charles Riddick, CCME chief executive officer. “Having been accredited to provide continuing education for physicians since 2001, it was fitting that we obtain the required credentials for providing nurses in the Carolinas with similarly high-quality, accredited continuing education.”
Jill McArdle, CCME’s director of federal services, said, “In meeting our goal of obtaining approved provider status by the end of 2012, our entire educational services unit conducted a comprehensive self-study, which included development and implementation of several individual nursing education activities.” McArdle, CCME’s lead nurse planner, added that this process has allowed CCME to step back and take a better look at the company’s organizational structure, which includes more than a dozen registered nurses who are involved with the educational aspects of nearly all of CCME’s initiatives to improve quality care.
“Through an ambitious staff development initiative that included the submission and approval of eight individual CNE activities this year, we familiarized these nurse planners with the ANCC process and developed the tools necessary to approve our own activities,” McArdle said.
Headquartered in Cary, CCME is the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services designated Quality Improvement Organization for the Carolinas. Along with CCME’s Accredited with Commendation status as a continuing medical education provider for physicians, this new CNE designation increases CCME’s ability to provide education across all health care provider settings, including nursing homes, hospitals, physician offices, and others. CCME’s newly acquired CNE Approved Provider status is valid though January 5, 2015.
