NC Mental Health Clinician, Independent Contractor

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence (CCME) provides External Quality Review (EQR) services for states that contract with Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) or Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHPs).  For the state of North Carolina, we are seeking mental health clinicians to consult with our onsite review teams regarding the quality improvement and utilization management activities of various health plans.

Specifically, we are recruiting for the following consultants:

  • One Ph.D. level Psychologist with at least 10 years of post-degree experience
  • One clinician with a Master’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years post-degree experience in providing direct care to persons with a Substance Abuse diagnosis
  • One clinician with a Master’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years post-degree experience in providing direct care to persons with intellectual and development delays

Please note that travel is required once a month, 1 – 2 days in length, to locations throughout the state of NC.

NC Physician Consultant (Orthopedic Surgeon), Independent Contractor

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence (CCME) contracts with the North Carolina Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) to conduct prior authorization (PA) reviews for treatment services of outpatient therapies, including physical and occupational therapy, for Medicaid recipients. The purpose of the reviews is to determine if the recipient’s medical condition and needs justify the frequency and intensity of service to be provided and to safeguard against duplication of services, inappropriate services, and excess payments.

We are currently seeking physician consultants who are Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery to participate in telephone consultations with CCME review therapists and render decisions about medical necessity of requested services. The time commitment for this role is approximately 15 minutes per week, noting that there will be weeks when no consultation is needed.

Specifically, consultants must meet the following requirements:

  • Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Prefer Board Certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine
  • Will consider Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with a subspecialty in Sports Medicine
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Actively practicing
  • NC Licensed (no sanctions) with hospital privileges in the state

NC Speech-Language Pathologist, PT, Work-from-Home

We are seeking a part-time Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to perform required medical review activities for Medicare and Medicaid contracts. The successful candidate will apply screening criteria, interpret and analyze clinical information and conduct project data collection as needed. Must understand and apply SLP review criteria, perform SLP reviews in accordance with contract requirements and provide education to providers and beneficiaries as needed. Duties include assisting with data collection and report preparation. This position is regular, part-time, 20 – 29 hours per week.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Degree in related field required
  • Current North Carolina license as speech-language pathologist
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience, including pediatrics
  • Knowledge of clinical tools used in testing and treatment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of current practice guidelines/standards of treatment
  • Basic understanding of data management and ability to make professional presentations

NC Freelance Proposal/Technical Writer

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence seeks a Freelance Proposal Writer, experienced with grant/proposal writing in the health care field. This position will assist with proposal development, research and writing. The proposal writer collaborates closely with Business Relations staff, subject matter experts and team members to develop and write original content for compelling health care proposals, to ensure the successful acquisition and/or retention of business. The proposal writer will work on an as needed basis, from home, in most casesLocal candidates only, as occasional meetings at our corporate headquarters in Cary are required.

The proposal writer’s duties will include, but is not limited to: reviewing Requests For Proposals (RFPs) and assisting with proposal planning; assisting in defining winning strategies; working with Business Relations team to develop content; meeting established proposal deadlines to write, review, and submit proposals; communicating proposal and status updates; ensuring proposal submission criteria for each proposal is followed; assisting with printing, assembly and binding of proposals; and ensuring consistency within proposals by following established methods and procedures and/or creating new methods and procedures.

The successful candidate's qualifications include:

  • Experience in the health care or related field, required
  • Health care grant/proposal writing preferred
  • Must have own computing equipment and access to internet
  • MS Office experience required

SC Quality Specialist, Nursing Homes

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence, a health care quality improvement organization, is seeking high performing health care professional with extensive background in the nursing home industry. The candidate should be knowledgeable of the implementation and application of quality improvement methodologies in order to help health care providers implement improvements in quality and patient safety. Must have the ability to assess and solve problems, develop innovative approaches, convene and lead groups in planning and goal setting.  This position is home-based.

Successful specialists meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health related field; RN preferred
  • 5 years of nursing home AND health care quality improvement experience

NC Writer/Business Development Specialist, Part-Time, Temporary

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence (CCME) seeks a part-time Writer/Business Development Specialist to assist with proposal development and other marketing materials.

This position will contribute to creative and compelling documents and marketing collateral for use in government proposals, grants, promotional materials, media documents including press releases, newsletters, journal articles and other professional literature. The Writer/Business Development Specialist is responsible for conducting research and analysis of various subjects through a variety of mechanisms; inspiring directors, managers, and subject matter experts to provide compelling input for documents and proposals; participating in storyboarding and content development meetings; developing win themes and incorporating strategies for final proposal drafts; translating technical and scientific ideas into easy to understand language; and interviewing program managers, technical leads and others to collect technical and methodology information that will inform technical approaches.

CCME anticipates 25 hours per week with periods of higher workload during proposal preparation, with the potential to grow into a full-time position.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong writing, proofreading and communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of management and various stakeholders (team members, partners, clients) to achieve results
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Prefer three years of experience in a nonprofit or federal/state government technical writing or proposal and capture role. Healthcare sector experience a plus.
  • Prefer working knowledge of Shipley methodology and application, including formal understanding of proposal management lifecycle and business development lifecycle

SC Community Health Workers, Temp/PT (several positions)

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence, a health care quality improvement organization, is seeking health care professionals with quality improvement experience. Internally entitled “Care Improvement Specialists”, these positions are Certified Community Health Workers (CHW), Certified Diabetic Educators (CDE), Certified Faith Community Nurses, and other health care and community advocates who will assist with coordinating and teaching Diabetic Self-Management Education. Our specialists are knowledgeable of the implementation and application of quality improvement methodologies in order to help health care providers implement improvements in quality and patient safety. They have the ability to assess and solve problems, develop innovative approaches, and convene and lead groups in planning and goal setting.  These positions are home-based, temporary, PRNs.

Successful candidates meet the following qualifications:

  • Community Health Worker or Certified Faith Community Nurse preferred
  • Must have interest in improving the health and welfare of Medicare diabetic beneficiaries in SC
  • Must attend company provided four day Stanford Lay Leader Training
  • Possess superior communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact with health care providers and coworkers

NC/SC PASRR Clinical Consultant

PASRR Clinical Consultant, part-time

CCME seeks a part time PASRR Clinical Consultant to provide clinical expertise and to participate in a collaborative endeavor to launch a new PASRR review program. The successful candidate will possess superb written and verbal communication skills and will serve as a knowledge resource and subject matter expert.  Responsibilities include: contributing to proposal development; documenting policies and procedures for related activities; and assisting with process implementation. This position may develop into a full time opportunity.

Our corporate office is located in Cary, NC; occasional travel to the office is required.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s required, Master’s degree in health related field as required by licensures
  • Current unrestricted license as RN LMFT, LMSW, LCSW, CMHT, LCMHT or LPC
  • RN with behavioral health experience
  • Experience in PASRR Level II review
  • Any related license or certification, a plus
  • Experience in NC and/or SC preferred
  • Ability to communicate and partner with various levels of management (team members, customers, stakeholders ) to achieve results
  • Familiarity with trends in healthcare industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including: Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
