NC - Director, Review Programs & Services

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence seeks a seasoned, dynamic leader for our Utilization and Quality Review Department. The Director manages existing utilization and quality review contracts, as well as identifies additional state contracting and grant opportunities that support CCME’s mission, vision and goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing goals, objectives and measures for all utilization and quality review services; overseeing the operations of contracts within the unit; establishing requirements for current and future staff competencies, certifications and skills; and increasing the business portfolio of utilization and quality review contracts and services. Some travel required within and outside of North Carolina.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred
  • Registered Nurse preferred
  • CPHQ preferred
  • Minimum of ten years related experience in quality and utilization review; experience with public sector (state or federal) preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of supervisory experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the healthcare delivery system
  • Knowledge of utilization and quality review methods and processes
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of federal healthcare programs, especially Medicaid
  • Experience in government relations
  • Excellent communication skills including public speaking and writing

SC - Pharmacist, Part-Time

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence has an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacist seeking part-time work in the quality improvement arena! This experienced professional supports our efforts to increase medication safety in the Medicare community. The pharmacist works in collaboration with QIN-QIO coalitions to prevent adverse drug events, reduce admissions and improve care coordination for beneficiaries across provider settings. Responsibilities include developing and tracking measures and intervention effectiveness; assisting with recruitment of beneficiaries and pharmacies within the community; providing medication safety training and educational activities; and establishing relationships to coordinate provider communication and medication therapy management. Travel required throughout the state and to some national meetings.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • Active pharmacy licensure in SC, and 5+ years of experience
  • PharmD or other advanced degree (e.g. MBA, MS, etc.) preferred
  • Must have experience working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in public speaking and professional writing
  • Board Certification (BCPS) in a clinical specialty and/or residency or fellowship training (preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in managed care, quality improvement, or drug safety

NC - Health Communications Coordinator

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence seeks a full-time Health Communications Coordinator to plan and coordinate communications and marketing for contract activities and company lines of business. The position provides assistance to the Director of Communications regarding any other internal and external relations/communications functions deemed appropriate. Duties include developing strategies that best deliver information to target markets via social media, news channels and other appropriate communications channels; writing press releases; media planning; and assisting Director of Communications with government relations.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Degree in communications or public health education or related field; or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in public health marketing
  • Superior news writing skills – AP stylebook
  • Experience with media planning and purchasing
  • Experience with web writing and social media
  • Experience in media relations
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Superior skills using the Internet for news and marketing purposes
  • Superior skills in news, copy and promotional writing
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, and Prezi

NC or SC - External Quality Review (EQR) Specialist
Cary, NC or Columbia, SC

The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence seeks EQR Specialists to conduct annual and readiness external quality review activities. The positions conduct review activities for managed care plans, prepaid inpatient health plans and medical homes networks in accordance with State Medicaid policies, federal regulations and CMS protocols. The successful incumbents will maintain professional working relationships with health plans, Medicaid agency contract staff and program leaders; proactively assist with the development of plans and activities to increase EQR contract opportunities; and provide maximum value to the customer. Travel required throughout NC and SC.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Degree from an accredited college or university in related field with at least 3 years of related experience
  • RN with active nursing license preferred
  • Experience in quality assessment and improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of MCO and/or PIHP delivery systems and financing
  • Experience with Medicaid populations, programs and policies
  • Experience with Medicaid managed care compliance
  • Excellent communication skills including public speaking and writing
  • Background in behavioral or mental health preferred
  • Knowledge of URAC or NCQA accreditation standards and/or HEDIS certification a plus
